Our Mission
AdviserCheck publishes free, plain-English guides about Australian financial advice regulation so consumers can read their advice documents with confidence. Our loyalty is to the reader receiving the advice — never to the industry providing it.
Research Standards
Every article is well researched before publication. We rely on primary sources, including:
- Corporations Act 2001 sections governing advice (s961B, s961G and related provisions)
- ASIC regulatory guides, including RG 175, RG 104, RG 105 and RG 146
- Treasury materials implementing the Delivering Better Financial Outcomes (DBFO) reforms
- AFCA complaints data and published determinations
- Federal Budget papers and Treasury superannuation measures
- Industry body publications where relevant (FAAA, APESB)
Each guide lists its sources at the foot of the page so you can verify anything we say against the original document. Where we cite statistics — penalties, complaint volumes, fee benchmarks — they come from regulator or industry reports, never from unsourced commentary.
Reviews and Updates
Financial advice regulation is not static. FOFA, the Royal Commission response, and the DBFO tranches each changed what advisers must do and disclose — and more change is queued.
Our approach is therefore ongoing rather than fixed-date:
- The AdviserCheck application itself is continuously reviewed and improved as guidance evolves
- Content is reviewed on an ongoing basis, and when legislative or regulatory changes occur, affected articles are added, edited, or removed so nothing stale is presented as current
- Dated topics — contribution caps, budget measures, reform timelines — are prioritised for review when their underlying settings change
Each page displays a last-updated date reflecting this process.
Corrections and Feedback
If you spot an error in one of our guides, we want to fix it. Registered users can contact us directly through the app — log in and send us the page and the passage you believe is wrong. Confirmed errors are corrected promptly, and substantive corrections are applied to the source lists where needed.
Independence and Funding
AdviserCheck's revenue comes from users purchasing credit packs for additional compliance checks, and from voluntary site support. We do not accept payment from adviser businesses, licensees, product issuers or platforms — and no commercial relationship influences what our guides say. Articles never promote financial products.
